The same rules apply to every lender

Every FCA-regulated lender must treat customers in financial difficulty fairly, consider forbearance such as lower payments or frozen interest, and give you time to get advice. If you cannot afford your payments.

My Debt Cleared is independent and is not connected with any company listed here. We cannot see or change your account. Firm details come from public sources including the FCA register, Companies House and the firms’ own websites; check them yourself before acting. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.

Common questions

What do I do if I can't pay my bank?

Contact the bank before you miss a payment, ask for a lower payment and frozen interest, and put any offer in writing based on your budget.

Do lenders have to help if I'm struggling?

FCA rules require lenders to treat customers in financial difficulty fairly and to consider options such as reduced payments or suspended interest. They do not have to agree to everything.

Who do I complain to about a lender?

The lender first. If you are not happy with its final response, or it has not replied within eight weeks, you can go to the free Financial Ombudsman Service.
